Samuel L Paden was born and raised in the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to an American father and Swedish mother. He studied painting under the landscape painter Leland John at Clackamas Community College, and then completed a BFA in painting at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR. He then spent a decade in Brooklyn, New York and overseas in Reykjavik, Iceland. In 2014 he moved with his partner to the Surel Mitchel Live Work Create District in Garden City, Idaho. Paden’s work has been featured in exhibitions and galleries in the United States and abroad, including the Student Union Gallery at Boise State University, Boise, ID; the Visual Arts Collective, Garden City, ID; Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York; the F.U.E.L. Collection in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Ernden Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts; and Ófeigur gullsmiðja ehf. in Reykjavik, Iceland.
