Bret Fowler is an Idaho native, living in Caldwell, Idaho, with his wife Pattie. He currently serves as the teacher-librarian at Caldwell High School, having taught literature and writing for 35 years. In addition, he teaches as an adjunct English professor at the College of Western Idaho. His first real taste for book arts and papermaking occurred over 20 years ago when he created his artist book Blood Knot to spotlight his poem of the same name. Crafted from handmade paper, watermarked, bound as a map and stitched with monofilament fishing line, Blood Knot was selected by the Idaho Center for the Book to travel the state of Idaho in its exhibit An Idaho Booker’s Dozen. Lately, he has completed a 100-copy hand-bound book edition entitled Vessel of Mercy, Man of Dust: 53 Poems of Cancer that chronicles his cancer journey. His poetry has appeared in a variety of publications including Idaho Arts Journal, English Journal, Inland Journal and the Trestle Creek Review.
